Travel Information

General Information

Most participants will arrive in New Delhi at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) and go through customs and immigration there. In New Delhi you can transfer to fly to Allhabad or Varanasi. There are several ATMs at the airports - in most cases, this is the best way to change money.

We will arrange bus transportation from the airport to the conference site. The bus will leave the airport in the morning on Sunday, January 4. If you have not done so already and would like to take this bus, please inform us about your flight schedule, so that we can take any flight delays into account.

NEW!!! Information about different ways to get from the airport to the conference location is posted here.

NEW!!! Visas

Foreign Nationals coming to India are required to possess a genuine and valid national passport or any other internationally recognized travel document establishing his/her nationality and identity and bearing photograph of the foreigner. Citizens of other countries need a valid passport and are advised to ensure that they are in possession of valid Indian Visa before they start their journey to India. Please inquire at the nearest Indian embassy or consulate. You may find more details here. There is no provision of 'Visa on Arrival' in India.

Depending on your citizenship, the visa application fee may vary. Please contact Prof. Rajana Prakash (hprakashICTOPON09@gmail.com) regarding the letter for your visa application verifying your registration. The visa processing time can take 2-3 weeks, please plan to apply not later than the beginning of December.

Climate

Temperatures in winters can drop with a maximum of about 12 to 14 degrees Celcius (53.6 to 57.2 Fahrenheit). While it does not snow in the city, there may be severe fog in Allahabad in January which can disrupt traffic and cause travel delays. Please bring appropriate clothing.
